Cerotainiops abdominalis fema
Cerotainiops abdominalis female. These robber flies are one of a few species known to specialize on ants as prey--probably a Pogonomyrmex harvester ant (they perch at the edges of the cleared areas that surround harvester ant nests, and pick-off individual ants). Beautiful photo--especially at full size!

Thanks for the ID
She was in an opening associated with a harvester ant nest.

Impressive shot
And impressive that all four shots of this species in bugguide are individuals feeding on ants.
