 Kaweah Basin Ant - Formica

Kaweah Basin Ant - Formica
Kaweah Basin, Sequoia National Park @ 10,600' el., Tulare County, California, USA
July 31, 2013

Moved
Several closely related possibilities out there in the Sierra Nevada, but at that altitude, most likely what Francoeur called fusca(forme marcida). Reddish legs, typical for that ant, seem to corroborate.

Formica sp. (fusca group) - worker
This combination of red legs and antennae with a dark, moderately silky grey body is somewhat unusual. Maybe Dr Trager will know.

Cropped and moved for expert attention.
Moved from ID Request.

Be sure to crop your pics as close to "just the bug" as possible. Only you and the editors have the option of viewing the full-size image.
