In the genus Ptinus, males and females may be alike - in this case, more elongate and with perceptible "shoulders" - or sexually dimorphic: females are flightless, elytra convex and shoulders rounded off.
Colour pattern, especially the "combs" on the pronotum, indicate the species named above, a common storage pest insect originating from Europe.
