Pretty certain these are blister beetles, probably genus Nemognatha.

Thanks for the ID. I agree. The head tucked under misled me. There are many other meloids in the area during spring to take advantage of this wonderful wildflower bloom. Do you know if the larvae of this group are bee parasites?
