Females of this and some similar species have a brown stripe on the face.

female Pelastoneurus vagans
I have similar studio photos of flies I believe to be female of this species, however, the lag between capture/freeze (Oct 8th) and defrost/photograph (mid November) resulted in the eyes looking bleached. I tried to rehydrate and it did not produce satisfactory results.
