Hemileuca maia - Buck Moth - Hodges#7730 ? - Hemileuca peigleri - Male
Camp Wood, Edwards County, Texas, USA
November 16, 2013
This photograph was taken by Tom Stoner in front of his house on a cold morning. Although this is a rare shot for Texas, he says he has seen them occasionally through the years. Hope I get to see one! Is this ID Correct? These I Phone pictures are blurry but I still think they are identifiable.

Moved- H. peigleri
Moved from Hemileuca.

I overlooked this submission. I second James's determination of H. peigleri based on locale and appearance.

.
Thank you. Hope I get to see on close up myself.

Thank you
James. I saw that picture from Big Springs Ranch and realized it was very close to our area, but I thought the yellow reniform spot on mine was larger and maybe a different size and the body and wings blacker with no stripes on the abdomen. Now I see that you could say the body was striped. There was one more picture that was blurry but might give some abdominal clue. I will ask for it. Also I thought the red on the front legs was heavier than on the one at Big Spring.

I am adding the only other photo I have which shows the heavy red on the front legs and will ask for the other and post it if it reveals anything about the body.

Will be looking for caterpillars this spring. I feel like I might have seen them.
