Fancy jumper - Phidippus arizonensis - male

Fancy jumper - Phidippus arizonensis - Male
Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado, USA
October 25, 2013
Size: ~7-8 mm
Found this on a tree trunk, collected it, and took it home for more images (those that follow). Identified by G.B. Edwards; there is also the remote possibility it is the male of an undescribed species, a female of which was collected in New Mexico.

Very nice spider . . .
and very different from the P. arizonensis I saw in the Rio Grande Valley. Although my sample size is small the ones I saw in TX seemed to spend a good deal of times above the shrub level in trees.

Thanks.
This is apparently a pretty variable species. Your observations are interesting and might suggest why the species is not seen that often.
