Identification
The similar forks of R4+5 and M1+2, combined with missing cell dm, will distinguish this fly from similar families such as Bombyliidae.
Range
Widespread in the north temperate region. Most species are from mid-latitudes of North America, north to tree line in western Canada and Alaska.
Remarks
This family is traditionally included in Asiloidea, but there is some doubt about its proper placement.
Most species are known from only one or a few specimens or localities, and larvae are unknown.
