Female Macrosiagon 2 - Macrosiagon flavipennis - female

Female Macrosiagon 2 - Macrosiagon flavipennis - Female
Rialto, San Bernardino County, California, USA
July 20, 2013
Size: BL: Approx. 12mm
This is the female at lower right in the thumbnail below:

Note the conspicuous overhanging spine-like process at the posterior apex of the pronotum...characteristic of M. flavipennis. That process has a small rain-drop on it, and there are larger rain-drops on the disk of the pronotum and the wings as well. An unusual summer monsoonal rain made it into the eastern Los Angeles basin from Arizona that day.

I wish I had seen a rain drop -
While searching for Rhaphiomidas acton along a wash off Bob's Gap Rd. near Valyermo, I found a number of other insects including both sexes of Macrosiagon flavipennis.
Finally also found a Rhaphiomidas. Worth enduring the heat, though a few rain drops would have been nice.
