Hairy Eristalis? - Eristalis anthophorina - male

Hairy Eristalis? - Eristalis anthophorina - Male
Horseshoe Lake, Pend Oreille County, Washington, USA
May 19, 2013
The Eristalis I see frequently are hairless, so this really caught my attention. This is in Cedar/Fir forest with lots of wetlands. I did find some similar, though much less robust, individuals in sagebrush country in October. Hair seems to uniformly cover the eyes. Is this a different genus? As always, thanks for your help!

Does look like Eristalis to me - sinuous R4+5, closed r1 cell, etc. The hairiness is typical of some Eristalis, and the face being hairy is consistent with some species in that genus.

Definitely Eristalis, likely E. anthophorina is my guess.
Nice capture! An interesting looking fly that combines the pattern of the smooth bodied version with the hairiness of some of its kin. Sort of flocked, I guess. LOL!
