Colorful Fly - Callomyia venusta - female

Colorful Fly - Callomyia venusta - Female
Chassell, Houghton County, Michigan, USA
September 3, 2013
This miniscule colorful fly caught my attention as it moved around on a blackberry leaf in my yard.
We allow the yard to grow naturally to attract insects and wildlife. Red and Sugar Maple, White
Spruce, Paper Birch, and Aspen grow around the edges. I took the picture about 5:30 p.m. I apologize
for the poor quality of the picture. I have a macro setting on my camera, but it's not an SLR. The
location is in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan near Lake Superior.

Callomyia venusta female, says Jeff Cumming
