Found on the Seed pods of a Joshua Tree (Yucca brevifolia). Thank you for your help.

Cleroidea
The shape of the urogomphi and the thoracic scleritization are pretty distinct. I'm not sure what family though.

Lepidoptera actually
maybe a cossid, but there are large skippers that breed in Yucca, too.

 
correction
upon further examination this does appear to be a beetle larva; cant think off-hand what it might be. It has some elateroid/cantharoid elements to it.
