This spider came in a roll of burlap I ordered that was shipped from Grand Rapids, MI. Not sure which states he is native to.

Yes! I think you have ID'ed my spider! I am so happy I can set him free. I now wonder if he came from my house or in the burlap from Michigan?

Can't help with the ID, unfortunately, as I am completely useless when it comes to our eight-legged friends.

If I'm not mistaken, those "boxing gloves" are pedipalps - sperm packet transfer appendages - and so this is a gentleman spider.

Thanks! In the meantime I did read up on spiders here at BugGuide and did learn that much. It is nice to know he looks like a he because he is a he. ;-) I would love to ID him in the hopes that he can be released. He is currently a prisoner but he does have water and I found him a little bug in case he gets hungry.
