Larvae of Delininae mine leaves of Liliaceae, Orchidaceae, and Commelinaceae. Larvae of Scathophaginae have been reported as phytophagous (especially in
Scirpus, Juncus, and
Pedicularis), predaceous, or coprophagous (as in the common Scathophaga species, although some feed in seaweed). Adults seem to be predaceous.
