If it helps, this does look like Platycheirus to me - male Melanostoma can be confused for Platycheirus but this is fortunately a female!

 
I'm going to de-frass this on
I'm going to de-frass this one, since the overhead shot is critical in syrphid identification (and helped me a good deal in identifying your fly); please let me know if you disagree!

I was having trouble loading this image and it loaded twice. I only meant to frass one of the duplicate images. Yes, I agree, this image, not great, does show the abdomen. Thanks for your comments.
