Isopods - Atlantoscia floridana

Cool
Should I make a new page for it, Eric?

Yes please!
These animals are no doubt A. floridana. Those big eyes distinguish them from virtually all other inland isopods in Florida, particularly among the Philosciidae. Kyle sent me some specimens of this species so I can take a closer look at some of them if needed, but I'm already confident of the ID.

Atlantoscia floridana
Kyle, this looks to be a spot-on match for Atlantoscia floridana, a widespread species in the tropics and subtropics from Florida to Brazil. They also are known to live in habitats just like you described. There aren't many species of inland isopods in Florida, but A. floridana is one that is known from a number of sites throughout the peninsula. One of the best diagnostic characters to use in the field is to look at the eyes - they are quite large in this species, being composed of 16-17 ocelli.
