Eastern Lubber Grasshopper - Romalea microptera - Female

This photo was taken at the Frenchman's Forest Natural Area. I found this male singing on a fallen pine tree. I had seen several adults on and around the trails this time of year.

actually
This is a female (note the ovipositor - horn-like appendages - on the tip of the abdomen). Males and females seem to be able to make a bit of a hissing sound.
