Caterpillar Identification - Biston betularia

Caterpillar Identification - Biston betularia
Chassell, Houghton County, Michigan, USA
September 6, 2013
Would this caterpillar be one of the Emerald Moths? I took this picture at 2:00 p.m. It was on
a Blackberry leaf in my yard which we let grow wild to attract insects and wildlife. The habitat
is boreal with White Spruce, poplar, White and Yellow Birch, hemlock and Red Maple. The location
is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan near Lake Superior.
