Adult: snout very short (no longer than head) and blunt-tipped; body light brown to reddish-brown with extensive black speckling and scattered white scales; elytra with black punctate striations and short erect hairs; brown surface scales often become rubbed off, revealing black ground color in places, giving a "black-scratched" appearance
native to Europe, adventive in NA (introduced ca. 1880) and established across s. Canada and in e. US south to NC(2)(1)(3)(BG data)
