Winter Park Skipper - Poanes taxiles

Winter Park Skipper - Poanes taxiles
Winter Park, Grand County, Colorado, USA
July 22, 2013
ID could be tough without side view. Environment was an open field filled with wildflowers and weeds.

Looks like
a male Sachem skipper. You're on the edge of their range. Orange wings, edge widely with brown, distinctive dark patch on inner forewing.

Sachem
Nice ID work. Thanks.

Does not look like a Sachem male
which has a large rectangular stigma on FW above. This appears to be a male Taxiles skipper http://butterfliesofamerica.com/poanes_taxiles_specimens.htm which would be in your locale.

I also considered the female Yuma skipper which is similar but apparently not in your area.

Taxiles
Thanks. I'm more comfortable with this ID. I was struggling with Sachem. I have seen other Taxiles in the area.
