Colorful Mystery Beetle - Chrysomela knabi

I found this beautiful beetle on a leaf of a shrub next to a small sandy bottomed meandering creek.
The area is quite brushy with a conifer forest. Would this be a leaf beetle or a ladybird beetle?
I took the picture at 10:00 a.m. The location is in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan near
Lake Superior.
