Our info page says that Cosmosoma
larvae feed on Climbing Hempweed, Mikania scandens, a twining vine in the daisy family (Asteraceae). Is that in the area?

Mikania scandens
I have not seen that particular plant. Unfortunately this caterpillar was found by my grandson as we were clearing an area near the fence and most of the vegetation has been mowed. I have seen many wild asters and an abundance of adult Cosmosoma myrodora here. I will look again in the area where this specimen was found and take some photos.

Host plant...
I am not very familiar with ornamental species, but I agree this does look like Laurel (Laurus nobilis) Lauraceae.

Moved from ID Request.

Cosmosoma myrodora
I now think this is a Cosmosoma myrodora caterpillar. The adults are numerous here.
