Delmar, I had another one just like this last week. I have always thought they were P. Santafealis as you have. I got a really full spread picture and found differences in the two on the hind wing, so now I am convinced there is a good reason that P. Santafealis has never been identified in Texas.

Hello Delmar,
I have had several of these dark ones that I thought might be santafealis, but was told they are probably jaliscalis. You might look at photos #724565, 636288 and 433095. All dark ones too. As you know, I am not an expert and cannot ID.

Thanks for your comments. My
Thanks for your comments.
My thought was that this image could be a P. jaliscalis. After looking at other examples, to me the broad brown band in the AM line in P. jaliscalis is straight across, whereas in P. santafealis that line is angled down . In this image this band seems almost straight. Also in P. jaliscalis the orange spot in that band is closer to the body and may be on the hindwing. In P. santafealis the orange spot is definitely on the forewing. That is why I had problem with this image since the orange spot appears to be on the forewing. Since I am no expert either, I may not be looking in the right places.

Hmmm
I hadn't thought of looking for those differences. Went back an studied all of mine. Several look just like yours, so I hope you get a professional explanation.
