This beetle was collected sweeping foilage with a net near Pena Blanca Lake during
Bugguide Gathering 2013. It keys it to
Xanthonia in Arnett
(1) and matches well the description and habitus image of
X. pilosa in Staines 2001
(2). The features cited which distinguish
X. pilosa from other species are visible in the linked images, "... pronotum with long silky pubescence, pronotum widest behind middle, elytral pubescence composed of erect hairs on every other interval, profemora with ventral tooth small to absent, metasternum punctate laterally, lateral margins of abdomen entire, and last abdominal sternite in male without a large tubercle on each side of middle". I'm not sure if it's male, though. Perhaps someone can confirm this from the exposed tip of its genitia visible in the ventral view. Expert confirmation of species ID is appreciated.
