Unidentified aquatic invertebrate - Eubranchipus
Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, USA
January 17, 2014
Size: Approximately 1.5 cm
My thoughts on finding it were a newly hatched predaceous diving beetle but I've been told they have appendages at all stages. An entymologist from an exterminating company suggests a fairy shrimp and sent me a fairly convincing picture for comparison.

The specimen was recovered from a vernal pond in eastern pine-oak forest community. Water temperature was 1 degree Celsius. There were several present.
