Weevil, Bar Harbor, Maine Jan26 - Sitophilus

Weevil, Bar Harbor, Maine Jan26 - Sitophilus
Bar Harbor, Hancock County, Maine, USA
January 26, 2014
Size: 1/4 aprox.
With thousands of possible weevils I don't expect more than a general ID from these photos. Any info is appreciated. The bathroom tub and sink drains seem to be weevil highways this winter. There are smaller ones than this. Never more than a few in a week. This one played dead but then revived when I set it in the direct sunlight. You can see more photos on a blog at www.acadiabirds.wordpress.com Select the "Insects" archive on the right if you don't see this one immediately.

Sitophilus sp.

weevil in birdseed and cracked corn
Thank you. With your help I was able to find the source. Because of their location I thought the weevils were invading from outdoors and did not realize I had brought them into the house myself.

glad i was able to help
from experience, birdseed is the most common source of these guys in America's homes
