The Sphinx caterpillar was still alive at the time of the photo, despite the heavy infestations by Cotesia (?) sp. In August of 2011 I saw four S. gordius caterpillars in similar conditions, in a spruce-larch bog. I collected one and counted 98 little pupa cases!
