Crambid at rest area - Anania labeculalis

Crambid at rest area - Anania labeculalis
Canoa Ranch I-19 Rest Area, Pima County, Arizona, USA
July 28, 2013
Comment by Jerry Fauske: "This one likely is the mundane Ostrinia nubilalis. Note the course of the p.m. line on the forewing."

After I asked him about the possibility of it being Anania labeculalis, he said, "My problem with A. labeculalis is in that species, the course of the post-median line is more or less straight on the lower half of the forewing, whereas in your specimen and in Ostrinia species, it has an extra little 'outward loop.'"

From what I can find, there are no known Arizona records of Ostrinia nubilalis.

Moved to Anania labeculalis
Moved from Pyraustinae.

I believe the strongly sinuate hind wing pm. line seen in your example matches that of Anania labeculalis and is lacking in Ostrinia.

Moved
Moved from Pyraustini. Maintenance move, not a reversal. Pyraustini was eliminated when Spilomelini was elevated to family.
