Tarantula on Marcus Landslide Trail - Aphonopelma chalcodes

Tarantula on Marcus Landslide Trail - Aphonopelma chalcodes
On the Marcus Landslide Trail in McDowell Mountains Regional Park, east of Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA
October 3, 2013
Size: About 4 inches, with legs
I laid down on the trail to get a "spider's eye" view of this beautiful creature, and although I was trying to get the entire tarantula in the image, it kept coming toward me and giving me a closer close-up than I was even hoping for, at one point attempting to climb onto the camera. I did finally get one shot of the whole body and legs as it was going away through the grasses.
