Trupanea? - Trupanea radifera

Trupanea? - Trupanea radifera
Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
February 4, 2014
This little fly was spotted on Distant Phacelia (Phacelia distans) in a recently burned area of mixed grass and coastal sage scrub at the Claremont Colleges' Bernard Field Staion. I think it must be Trupanea, but I have no idea of which species or if it is even possible to tell from this photo. Any information will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much!
One of the things I love about BugGuide is having an expert come along and ID a photo that's been languishing for several years. I really appreciate it!

This will be a new species for the field station's invert list. We are in the process of revamping the website, so it may be a little while before it shows up.
