False Mosquito - Aedes vexans
Savannah, Georgia, USA
Size: approx 8 mm

Moved
Moved from Mosquitoes.

Species
I would say this is a male Aedes vexans.
e.g.

True mosquito!
Hi!

You don´t believe it? It looks so different? Yes, it does - but this simply is a male one, which are rarely seen (and photographed), because males do not approach us. Only the females are blood-sucking . . .

cheers, Boris

Thanks
Thanks - Now that you mention it, I think I did read that only females suck blood. I still wouldn't have guessed. The lack of a proboscis threw me off.
