Honey Pot Ant? - Myrmecocystus

Honey Pot Ant? - Myrmecocystus
Galiuro Foothills, San Pedro River Valley, SE of Mammoth, Pinal County, Arizona, USA
February 7, 2014
I would guess that this could be Myrmecocystus mendax as it looks like another ant from last year. It was found alone on sandy ground on a dry ridge. Thank you.
Any idea what the thin filaments are that seem to be attached to it's mandible?

Yes. Probably the species you say, though there are several that look close, and the necessary seta characters aren't visible. The "filaments" are the maxillary (longer) and labial palps.
