Black and white insect - Mallophora bomboides

Black and white insect - Mallophora bomboides
Don Pedro Island State Park, Near Rotunda, FL, Florida, USA
December 3, 2006
This was a very large insect. Maybe an inch and a half. Hard to judge. It was about 15 feet from me. I know this is a poor photo but I'm hoping for an ID.

Robber
This is a robber and at that size in Florida it can only be Mallophora bomboides. This one appears paler than the other image but it has that same elongate abdomen and the light dark light pattern on the upper abdominal hair. Very impressed that it is flying in December but, hey, it is Florida.

Thank you Herschel!
I see there is only one other in the guide. I will move it until a better photo can be taken for December.
