Moved from Mayflies.

Nice shot of a smaller baetid. The carina on the head is visible and the gills on the seventh abdominal segment are teardrop shaped instead of oval. The color pattern is pretty distinctive, too.

This mayfly stopped moving in
This mayfly stopped moving in mid-December; would that suggest diapause?

Stopped moving
Had you been keeping it alive? If the gills have stopped moving, the mayfly is likely dead. I can't think of any observations of diapause in mayfly nymphs. Eggs, yes. I have a colleague who has worked with stonefly eggs that will diapause. That way a single clutch of eggs can develop across several years/seasons.
