I like all those great caterpillar photos you post and want to learn - but I wished you would mention the host plant more consistently (I realize that sometimes this is not possible: I picked caterpillars from the siding of our home, for example, or had them given to me).

but most of these photos were taken before I realized that I should pay attention to the host plant. I'm also not very good at identifying plants.

True, but we're still thinking
that this is velata. Let's see what Laci thinks. Everything else is a perfect fit. It is just low on black pigment!

you guys have a really good eye (well four of them I suppose) :)

We think that is what it is,
but we will have to hit the books and read some more.

 
Wagner's Owlets
seems to indicate that the face mark is diagnostic.

On grass, we would expect this to be
Loscopia velata, but that usually has a dark face mark.

 
The face mark does seem distinct
otherwise it looks right.
