elderberry borer

elderberry borer
Ackworth, Warren County, Iowa, USA
February 23, 2014
Size: hole ~2 mm diameter
A stand of elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) in a road ditch (bordered by cropfield and old field) contained several plants with small holes in their upper stems. After photographing several of those, I broke up some stems to see their interior structure, so a series of photos follows this one.

Moved from Unidentified Signs on and in Wood.
