sulphur - Zerene cesonia

sulphur - Zerene cesonia
Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
November 10, 2006
Size: wingspan around 2"
Sulphur loves the bachelor buttons in my front yard (that is what my fiancee calls the flowers, but I'm not sure if that is really what they are called). I am thinking orange sulphur, but not sure.

Gomphrena
The flowers remind me of Globe Amaranth, Gomphrena globosa. The most common types don't look quite like this, but there are red cultivars that do. True Bachelor's Buttons (Centaurea cyanea) is flatter, and usually deep, deep blue- though it comes in other colors.

agreed
Cliff has nailed it. Nice photo too!

Southern Dogface
Zerene cesonia.
