Puffer's Pond Conservation Area, Amherst, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
February 26, 2012
I thought for sure this would be an easy one to ID. Not only is it brilliantly colored, but how many beetles are out and about in February in Massachusetts? But I must be looking in the wrong families, because I haven't found it yet...

must be Tricrania sanguinipennis

pretty early for these to be out
I usually start seeing these at the end of March/early April up in Maine.

I *was* looking in the wrong family...
Thanks for the ID! I was so sure that this was a Cerambycid, hadn't even considered the Meloidae.
