Size: wingspan ~11mm
Caloptilia (= ? Gracillaria) syringella 0645
Common Names of both: Common Slender, Lilac Leafminer, Privet Leafminer
wingspan ~11mm
RWWC1220-13 BOLD DNA On published db the specimens from here all have 100% match with Caloptilia syringelia and 99.5% match with Gracilaria syringella. On the question of whether they are synonyms others can decide. It is obvious they are closely related if not the same species. There is a long history of taxonomy on this (these) species starting with they apparently were both named by the same author in the same year (Fabricius, 1794). In 2005 De Prins and De Prins World Catalogue of Insects put the generic placement as Gracillaria not Caloptilia but BOLD retains both genera (with the same species name). Both are species common in Europe.
