native to the Neotropics, now subcosmopolitan; in our area, e.US (NY‒FL to WI‒KS), widespread in Europe(1)(3)(4)(5)
Habitat
indoors and outdoors (in carrion and wet bird nests, esp. pigeon nests)(3)

plant and animal material, incl. skins, bone meal, dried fish, fishmeal, grain (corn kernels), etc.(3)
Remarks
both outdoor and indoor; the most common Dermestes indoors in the UK(3)
