Bradycellus lugubris (LeConte), male
Moved from Stenolophus ochropezus. ID'd from specimen, now a photo-voucher. Thanks John.

Good thing you saved it, I was hasty in my original determination.

Thanks Brad
There are so many Carabids that look so similar to me, was there an obvious key character that would be noticeable if I came across another one?

Nothing terribly obvious in most photos
These Stenolophina genera are sometimes difficult to tell apart from photos. Seeing the bottom of the head (mentum toothed or not) can be useful. This species is, superficially, somewhat similar to Stenolophus ochropezus (mostly in the general pattern of dark elytra with a more or less pale first interval), but smaller and lacks the iridescence on the elytra.

Stenolophus ochropezus
Moved from Ground Beetles.
