Saw this on a field trip w/ Dennis Haines...I think he may know the genus (and species too perhaps?)

Good call!
Visual match is excellent, and habitat from info page (montane coniferous) is right on too.
I noticed that =v= posted an image by M. S. Caterino from Los Padres Nat. Forest, which is not all that far to the southwest of Paiute Mountain:
And Dennis ID'd another CA post from further north in the Sierra Nevada:
In his comment with the thumbnail above, Dennis mentions that:
"There should be some white waxy material below the elytra margin on the sides, beneath the pronotum, and on the lower face."
Indeed such waxy material is quite evident in my image above.
Glad to have this one posted and ID'd (at last). I've been curious about it for some time.
