Size: body length about 12 mm
This species seems slightly uncommon in this area, and I have never seen them elsewhere. They are usually seen in the cooler months.

Microschatia
Looks like Microschatia inaequalis LeConte, and the locality works for that species too.

How can you tell?
There's no bio on your personal page or link to some source that shows this species...

The wide antennal segment is actually two.
There is a very stubby terminal segment almost sunken in the much larger segment before it. That's diagnostic for Asidini according to Kojun.

Another possibility, but I'm no expert
Diabolical ironclad beetle Phloeodes diabolicum

I think yours may be stubbier and have less texture in the front section, he said very unscientifically.
