Is this Mocis texana? - Mocis latipes
Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
November 16, 2013
Size: ~3cm across
This moth came to my brightly lit patio on 11.06.13 at ~11:30PM. It may be Mocis texana, but I am not sure.
Please help me to identify it.
Thanks -

Andrew

Hello ak,

I am sorry to move your moth again, but I discovered I had placed it wrong. See here and http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=8743 to see why. Yours has the double circles in the median area. M. texana has only one circle. I am going to post the beautiful one I had lately a little later today if you want to look at the difference. I was trying to ID a Florida Mocis and got into a discussion that led me to study all of them more closely. This species has a PM line that touchs the Costa and the inside edge of the forwing, a straight AM line, a dotted ST line and either a gray or a tan hind wing.
