Hercules beetle larva - Dynastes tityus

Size: 3 1/2"
This specimen was brought to my office for identification. It was found when the gentleman was digging out an old rotten stump from his yard. I am attempting to allow them to mature in my office.

Very nice find. Since you are attempting to allow "them" to mature I assume he found at least two.

Yes, I have two
I actually have two. I have them in separate containers and keep a check on them every few days. I hope they pupate before long. I think it usually takes 12-18 months but considering their size, I believe they have been around for a while.

What do they eat? What would happen if you put them both in the same container? After they mature into the beetles, how long do they live?
