Are you planning to post
better images from Texas? This was quite a range extension for the BugGuide data map. Would love to see Texas on the map again.

Sorry I thought
that most people were against the data posting for bugs, especially butterflies, including yourselves. Also, this wasn't a great angle or photo. I' ll move it back though!

As a general statement we would say yes
we are not excited by posting just for the data, an eleventh image of something from Virginia just so we can fill out another month. But ours is not the only opinion that matters. Many have spoken in favor of more images. So we try to walk some subtle line. We would frass images where most of the image is out of focus, regardless of location. We would frass images where much is out of focus if it is from a state that clearly has this species even if we do not yet have a good specimen. If this image were from South Carolina, with images in the guide from Georgia and North Carolina already, we probably wouldn't have said anything about your frassing it even though much of the image is in focus and the species is clearly identifiable. But from Texas, outside the range of the images on BugGuide and with significant commentary on the image, it would seem to us to be a shame to lose this image. That's the only reason why we commented. I wish we had a much clearer explanation, but decisions to keep or frass are made on the basis of subtleties for us. Maybe BugGuide will come up with clear rules eventually, but until then we're just trying to make the best decision we can. We must confess that we are happy that you put it back, but will probably be even happier when you get that "knock your socks off" next image from Texas!

Common Wood Nymph?
If so, it's the first post for Texas.
I don't know them well at all, and there's some variation, so I hope an expert comes along. Meanwhile, have a look:

Seems smaller --
maybe something like Little Wood Satyr - Megisto cymela. See

It's a Little Wood Satyr
Only similar bug is Carolina, which lacks lower eyespot on forewing, and would have striped eyes instead of solid black.
