Sawfly on the window - Ametastegia pallipes

Size: 7.5 mm
Found this in my kitchen just now. I'm guessing it emerged from one of the potted plants next to the window (they were dug in the fall and kept in a shed until a few weeks ago, so a larva feeding on foliage could have burrowed into the soil and overwintered there), but it's conceivable that it chewed its way out of a rearing bag, depending on what it is.

Moved from "Symphyta" - Sawflies, Horntails, and Wood Wasps.
Thanks. I wasn't trying to rear any violet feeders, so it must have come from one of the potted plants. I did have an Ametastegia equiseti larva overwintering in soil, but this clearly isn't that.

Tenthredinidae, Allantinae
Ametastegia pallipes (Spinola), violet sawfly. Probably from the soil or something indoors. They fly early, but not this early that far north. There are multiple generations a year.
