Scarites
Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
October 20, 2006
Size: 18 mm
Found under a lighted wall during the day, perhaps preying on the other insects. Length measured in place (18 mm to base of mandibles, about 20 mm with mandibles). Appears to be a Scarites, of which we have no images from Texas, and now we do, for what that's worth.
Image updated 3/12/21.
