I found moulted second larval cyst coverings such as this in great numbers on the needles of a pinyon tree (Pinus edulis) in a residential front yard on General Chennault St, Albuquerque NE, NM (Alameda 7.5 minute quadrangle). I've posted an extensive study of the life cycle of the species which formed the cyst, based on the population of a different tree.

This image is from a CombineZP processed stack of 140 images with a 5.6 µm step taken with a Mitutoyo M Plan APO 10×/0.28 ∞/0 mm microscope objective + Nikon 200 mm F4 AIS telephoto lens + Nikon D300 camera (magnification 10×; technique described here).
