Unknown adult caddisfly from California

Unknown adult caddisfly from California
Rodeo Lagoon, Marin County, California, USA
March 28, 2014
Size: 24 mm
This large, adult caddisfly came to a UV light set up along the side of a willow grove growing along the edge of a brackish lagoon. Sort of looks like Hydropsyche, but not quite. Suggestions? Observed as a part of the 2014 GGNRA Nat Geo / National Parks Bioblitz. See original obs w/ coordinates at http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/601624.

interesting - nice pic.
Likely one of the Limnephilidae but cannot see enough to be sure which genus. The season is a little unusual. You would have had to keep it to figure it out but if you did you should be able to get to species. Was there fresh water close by? While there are some caddis that handle highly saline systems fairly well I don't know of any that are that big.

freshwater nearby
Yes, there's a fresh stream that runs into this brackish lagoon, so the upper parts of the lagoon are probably fresh. I need to get in touch with my partner in crime for the evening to see if he collected this, but what should we be looking for if he did?

species identification
If you are in Oakland you have great access to UC Berkley or CAS entomological folks. Ask the entomological curators at either who can help you out. Otherwise, if you wish, you can send it to me and I will do it.
